Abstract

Extended Education redefines learning by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), and robotics to transcend traditional educational boundaries. It embraces formal, informal, and lifelong learning, promoting inclusivity, flexibility, and internationalisation through virtual mobility and micro-credentials. Yet, this transformation raises key ethical and pedagogical challenges, including digital inequality, data privacy, and algorithmic bias. The six interdisciplinary contributions - from Italy, Switzerland, and the USA- address themes such as AI-assisted writing, AI-generated multimedia, multimedia learning principles, AI-supported medical radiography, VR/AR in construction history, and project-based language learning in the MENA region. Together, by situating extended education within global and interdisciplinary dialogues, highlight not only the transformative potential of emerging technologies but also the urgent need for responsible frameworks ensuring equitable, human-centred, and pedagogically sound innovation in education.
